With Your Family

Think of a survey question that can be answered either “Yes ” or “No.”

Ask a group of people your survey question and record the results for males and females. Find the percentage of males and the percentage of females who responded Yes. Then calculate the total percentage of people who said Yes.

Does adding the percentages of Yes votes by males and by females result in the total percentage of people who said Yes?

Suppose a motion passes with a 52% vote. Find some possible ways to break this into percentages for males and percentages for females who voted Yes. Is it possible that only males supported the motion? Only females?
