Get a map of your state showing all counties. Color the map so that neighboring counties have different colors. How many colors did you need?

Find a map of the U.S. where states are colored. Do neighboring states get different colors? How many colors does the map use?

Make a map that requires only three colors and that is different from the one pictured.

Find maps of the U.S. in 1790, when there were only the 13 original colonies. How many colors does that map need? How about a map of the US in 1810, or 1850?
